This morning we
partook of two unique aspects of Australian culture – their September date
of Father’s Day and a breakfast barbecue. In honor of Father’s Day, which
here falls on the first Sunday of September, Saint Joseph Primary School
invited all the fathers of the students to a breakfast and liturgy. The
eggs, bacon, and sausage were grilled on large outdoor grills and wrapped
in delicious Turkish rolls. Aussies love their barbecues, even in the
early morning!
Seeing over
sixty fathers present, as well as numerous mothers and siblings, on the
morning of a workday showed the value the people place in their families.
Saint Joseph’s intercession and the charism of the Josephites who served
here for many years are alive and bearing fruit.
Sr. Mary Rachel
departed the barbecue a bit early to join in her first meeting for the
Evangelization and Catechesis Team. After classroom visits to distribute
Rosaries, Sister Anna and I joined Sr. Mary Rachel at the Polding Centre
for Mass, during which Father Tim, head of Liturgy for the Archdiocese,
reminded us that if the Lord does not build the house in vain do the
builders labor.
