Today,
as the Dominican Order celebrated the feast of Saint Hyacinth and our
Congregation commemorated our four foundresses, we had the wonderful
opportunity to become better acquainted with our mission to assist in the
World Youth Day Office. We attended the monthly staff briefing in which
each Director presented his or her update on planning and preparations for
this amazing encounter. It was easy to catch the flame of inspiration in
the dynamic and good-spirited exchange of news and ideas.
After the
meeting, we all attended Mass with Bishop Fisher, who once more expressed
his joy at the expansion of the Dominican presence in the archdiocese and
in the planning of World Youth Day. In a humorous tone, Bishop Fisher
pointed out that Saint Hyacinth possessed that
stubbornness
that in Saints is called perseverance, that love for tourism that in
Saints is called itinerancy, and that desire to hear one’s own voice that
in Saints is called zeal for preaching the Word, reminding us that grace
builds on nature and that God can transform our gifts and make them bear
apostolic fruit.
Each day our
Australian connections broaden and deepen. As we remain one in mind and
heart with our Sisters at home, we find that Australians are more than
willing to help us find a home here as well.
