Reflections from the Sisters: August 16, 2007

This morning we attended Mass in the Parish Church of Saint Joseph.  As we walked in, the gathering of daily Mass attendants was moving to see, and they were praying the Rosary together.  To our delight, we discovered that one of the side chapels has a large framed image of Our Lady of the Rosary with Saints Dominic and Catherine. In fact, this chapel includes multiple images of Mary from literally all over the world.  The universality of the Church radiates in this parish.  When Father Augustine introduced us to the people, their happiness was evident, and we were happy to realize that our presence adds another nation to over forty praying together in this parish, as we are the only citizens of the United States here.  After Mass, the people stay to pray the Divine Mercy chaplet.  There is no lack of devotion to Jesus and Mary in the hearts of these dedicated Catholics.

After a very full day, praying Compline together in our chapel, which now included a new crucifix and a gorgeous floral arrangement sent by Saint Joseph School and its staff, we again had reason to offer thanks to God and to pray for the beautiful souls of Sydney, whose generosity echoes the divine.
