  Making Ready for Renovation:
The Big Move Out

How does a family move after living in the same house for 145 years? After months of logistical planning and years of building meetings, the sisters at St. Cecilia Motherhouse faced the daunting task with enthusiasm and the help of family and friends. Every piece of furniture was marked for movement into either the new wing, storage or the nearest Goodwill. After a transition schedule was in place, the plans became a reality as men and women from area parishes turned out to literally “clear out” the Motherhouse. Large dressers were lifted by crane from the fourth floor windows. Chairs, beds, and desks made their way down stairways. Members of the Father Ryan High School Football team even volunteered to help with the hauling. It was teamwork at its best. Within days more than 50,000 square feet of convent space was empty and ready for renovation.

The New Wing: The Big Move In

For decades this building we call our Motherhouse has served as the heart and center of our Congregation. Within the space of a year, all of it will be upgraded, strengthened and preserved for the centuries to come. The sisters of St. Cecilia are grateful to all who have brought us to this point.

With the smell of fresh paint and a flourish of activity, the sisters watched as daily deliveries of beds, desks, bookcases, and literally everything needed to live life as we know it was set into place. Personal belongings made their way into suitcases and boxes and within a very short period of time the transition was made. The first meal in our new refectory brought heart-felt expressions of joy. Every detail of the fourstory complex has been deeply appreciated. Our cells are truly “monastic”, simple and conducive to silence, study and prayer. The library is a great delight for Dominican souls. We are truly grateful to our families and benefactors who have supported our fundraising with prayer and financial contributions.
