From 1860 to the Present
The Dominican Sisters of St.
Cecilia Congregation have served the Church through the apostolate of
teaching since 1860. Over the past 20 years they have been blessed with a
renewed growth in religious vocations to their community. In the year 2001
this growth, combined with the conditions of an aging Motherhouse,
prompted the Sisters to turn to their friends and families for financial
support for the first time in their 146 year history.
Through the goodness of God and
the generous response of benefactors, the Sisters’ prayers were answered
with gifts and pledges to the “Behold the Heritage” campaign. These gifts
have not only allowed them to renovate their Motherhouse but to expand it
to accommodate their growing numbers. The Dominican Sisters are
overwhelmed with gratitude!
CONTINUED
GROWTH
God continues to send this
community young women seeking to live a life consecrated to Him. This
fall 13 new postulants entered the community making almost 50 young
sisters in their first years of formation.
Just as this same growth was
cause for the Sisters to embark on the renovation and expansion of their
century-old Motherhouse, it has also prompted the Congregation to look at
the community’s needs which go beyond the bricks and mortar.
A
GIFT FOR TODAY
The St. Cecilia Congregation is
now operating a Motherhouse which has doubled in size. The community of
sisters currently numbers 226. For support of the sisters in the
novitiate, in the active apostolate and in retirement, the Congregation
relies primarily on revenue from their teaching stipends.
As the community has grown it
has been able to expand its teaching apostolate to many more students
from preschool through college age. The sisters can now be found teaching
in 30 schools located in 12 states helping students and their families to
deepen their faith in God and their understanding of His Church, while
providing at the same time quality academic education.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The Sisters of St. Cecilia now
turn to their benefactors, families and friends for assistance in
furthering their Dominican life and mission. Specifically, the
Congregation is seeking your continued support by considering a gift which
would be used for daily living expenses as well as larger areas of need,
including education and formation and maintaining the Motherhouse. |
