St. Pius X School
Founded 1961, Nashville, Tennessee
Diocese of Nashville

St. Pius X School was begun in 1961 under the direction of its pastor, Monsignor Daniel Richardson, for Catholics who were moving into the Bordeaux area. The school’s opening was providential for the students of Assumption School, which had just closed in 1960 after 100 years of operation, first under the Sisters of the Precious Blood until 1899, then under the Dominican Sisters. Students from Joelton came to St. Pius when St. Lawrence School closed in 1965. Today both Catholic and non-Catholic students attend St. Pius, not only from the Bordeaux area, but from a number of outlying parishes.

St. Pius School was built as a labor of love by the parishioners themselves, who were dedicated to providing a Catholic education for their children. The well-built school with its spacious classrooms, gym, cafeteria and full range of technological equipment is a remarkable testimony to the commitment of a very small parish, and particularly to the strong support of Catholic education by Father Bernard Niedergeses, it pastor of 35 years. St. Pius has an all-Catholic faculty distinguished by their love of teaching and of the Faith.

St. Pius is noted for its mission of evangelization among its 29% non-Catholic population. The parents, who choose the school for its private, safe environment and excellent Catholic curriculum, come to understand and appreciate the spiritual benefits, as well as the academic foundation of a Catholic education. Both children and the parents are pleased with the school and the opportunity it affords them.
