St. Gertrude School
Founded 1934, Cincinnati, Ohio
Archdiocese of Cincinnati

St. Gertrude Church and Priory, founded in 1926, is part of a long Dominican presence in Cincinnati begun almost 200 years ago when Edward Fenwick, O. P., was appointed the first Bishop of Cincinnati. Our sisters have staffed the school from its beginning in 1934.

St. Gertrude School has a special character thanks to the presence of the Dominican Fathers in the parish and to the Novitiate House of the St. Joseph Province.  The resident novices often share vocation stories with the children.

The joint apostolate of the Dominican Fathers and Brothers with our sisters in the school makes St. Gertrude School unique among the missions of the Nashville Dominicans. In our preaching, teaching and striving for holiness in religious life, the Dominican charism is lived to the full.

The school’s success rests in the fact that it is true to its mission of educating the whole child with a program that is rigorous and a spirit that respects the dignity of each human person.  In 2004, the school and parish community broke ground on a new school building.
